The Scottish Parliament

We are proud to be associated with the recently completed Scottish Parliament Building at Holyrood in Edinburgh, with Tradewoods supplying in excess of 6000m² of bespoke manufactured hardwood flooring to complete the finishing of the installation.

Working on the project for over two years alongside the Holyrood architects and design teams, Tradewoods developed a new specification of factory lacquered solid French oak flooring specifically to fulfill the Holyrood brief and to compliment the aesthetics of the Parliament project.

Opened in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen on the 9th of October 2004, the Scottish Parliament is now in full flow, and the Holyrood flooring supplied has been expanded into a prestigious collection of factory finished solid French oak floorings now available for use in your own project; Tradewoods Parliament Range

Fina Bar & Grill

Fina Bar & Grill is fast building a reputation as one of Cheshire's foremost dining experiences. Completed in time for the 2008 Christmas season, Fina represents the very best in culinary flair and will certainly be the place to be seen in 2009.

Fina features Tradewoods Super 6  Rustic French Oak hardwood flooring throughout. The Tradewoods Super 6  flooring was installed unfinished and then treated to a coat of dark mahogany stain. A coat of Bona Prime Intense was applied after the stain, followed by three coats of Bona Traffic Silk, to help protect the floor from the high volume of foot traffic which Fina will undoubtedly experience.

Whilst our project photographs tell part of the tale, the best way to truly appreciate this particular installation is to pay a visit to Fina yourself. For more information and to book your table, visit the Fina website by clicking here: Fina Bar & Grill.

Royal Birkdale

This prestigious project is an underfloor heating installation in a brand new property overlooking the Royal Birkdale Golf Course.

Around 250m² of Tradewoods Super 6 Rustic unfinished boards were bonded down over the underfloor heating system, with the boards being finished off with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear.

The floor is maintained by suction hoovering the areas to remove any dust or grit and then cleaning off using a 'dry-mop' with a small amount of Treatex Floorcare diluted in a small amount of tepid water.

Wainwright's Farmhouse

Wainwright's Farmhouse is a superbly refurbished and converted farmhouse, occupying a splendid location amongst open fields and rolling farmland in the heart of rural Worcestershire.

The farmhouse boasts an impressive entrance hall, a study, ground floor bedroom and three large reception rooms alongside a stunning dining room, all of which have been fitted with Tradewoods Super 6  Rustic French Oak Flooring. This stable engineered oak flooring, which is 21mm thick and 180mm wide and features a solid 6mm veneer of solid rustic French Oak was supplied unfinished and was sealed on site after installation with two coats of clear hardwax oil.

Featuring a blend of traditional radiators and underfloor heating, Tradewoods Super 6  Rustic French Oak was the ideal choice for this refurbishment.

Norcliffe Hall

Robert Hyde Greg was an economist, successful industrialist and the founder of Manchester’s Quarry Bank Mill. He was elected Member of Parliament for Manchester in 1839, was a member of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society and a founder member of the Mechanic’s Institute. Set in huge rolling grounds he built Norcliffe Hall, which has fishing rights to the River Bollin, as his family home in 1815. A Grade II Listed Building situated within the Styal Conservation Area, Norcliffe Hall is an important local example of early Victorian architecture.

Recently having undergone a complete restoration, Tradewoods are delighted to have supplied over 1000m² of flooring for this important project: Norcliffe’s new underfloor heating system has been covered with Tradewoods Super 6 unfinished rustic French Oak 21 x 180mm. The featured apartment first received a coat of mahogany oil to add a deep, period look to the floor, this mahogany oil was then over-coated with two coats of clear oil to finish. A stunning restoration.

Rainhill High School

Rainhill High School in Merseyside is widely recognised as a successful school with a total of 1400 pupils. Tradewoods are delighted to have chosen to supply over 200m² of solid French Parliament Oak flooring to refurb one of the schools many high use activity areas.

The 130 x 21mm Harris flooring was secret nailed over Tradewoods semi-sprung battens and then finished with one coat of Bona Prime and three coats of Bona Traffic profesional floor seal. Tradewoods also provided a Bona maintenance programme to ensure the aesthetic and longevity of this quality hardwood floor.

Trevalyn Hall

Trevalyn Hall, which dates back to the 16th Century has been extensively renovated and restored to its former glory. An imposing propery, this Elizabethan Hall was owned by the same family for over 400 years.

800m² of Tradewoods Contract 1-Strip Rustic Oak factory-oiled engineered hardwood flooring has been installed over a piped water underfloor heating system as part of the restoration. And installation was relatively quick and easy as these factory oiled boards once installed required no further finishing.

This factory-oiled flooring is maintained by suction hoovering the floor to remove any dust or grit and then cleaning off using a 'dry-mop' with an amount of Treatex Floorcare diluted in a small amount of tepid water. Barrier matting has also been installed at all the entrances to the Hall to minimise ingress of silt or abrasives on to the hardwood floor.

The Hedca Centre

The Hedca Centre in Hampshire was refurbished in the Summer of 2007 using Tradewoods Parliament 150mm wide Solid rustic French Oak strip which was bonded directly down to the concrete screed using Silovil L34 adhesive at a rate of 1.2kg per m².

As the unfinished Parliament Oak flooring is factory filled and sanded, once installed it is immediately ready to receive its first coat of lacquer or oil.

To complete this installation, one coat of Bona Primer and three coats of Bona Traffic were applied to protect the Parliament Oak flooring.

Tradewoods Parliament Range is available as a 14mm overlay or 21mm load bearing strip and in widths of 130mm, 150mm and 180mm.

Nutlea House

Nutlea is a prestigious country house situated in Devon which has recenly undergone a full refurbishment by one of the directors of Nu-Heat underfloor heating.

Needless to say as part of the refurbishment a state of the art piped water underfloor heating system was installed and Tradewoods Super 6 Prime Oak was selected as the appropriate hardwood floorcovering for this substantial property.

As can be seen from the photographs, the flooring was laid directly over the heating system. To finish the Tradewoods Super 6 Prime Oak boards they were given two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil to bring out the grain and character of the wood. As you can see for yourself, the results are just superb.

Canary Wharf

Tradewoods were involved in the development at Canary Wharf for almost 2 years before the project commenced. Liaising with the designers and firming up final specifications with the architectural team, Tradewoods assisted in drawing up a tight specification for Tradewoods Classic Walnut 3-Strip to be laid over a heated subfloor.

Several alternatives were examined before the final choice of hardwood floor covering was made, but it was decided that Tradewoods Classic Walnut 3-Strip gave the appartments a classic feel whilst complimenting the comtemporary and moderm build.

Over 2500m² of flooring was installed in total, with the whole project being completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
